This route takes us from the moorlands of Redmires through scenic footpaths and quiet valleys, finishing in the charming village of Hathersage. Along the way, we’ll pass Stanage Edge, a dramatic gritstone escarpment that offers one of the most spectacular views in the Peak District—it’s a favourite for walkers, photographers, and even film locations. Whether you’re looking for a bit of exercise, a mental break, or simply a good time with others, this walk is for you.
Time and location to meet:
9.30 am at Student Union, University of Sheffield (S10 2TG)We’ll take the 51 bus together to Redmires. Please be punctual so we can catch the bus on time.
Returning time:
We aim to finish the walk at around 4.00 pm in Hathersage town centre.You’re welcome to stay longer to explore or relax. For those returning to Sheffield, you can take the 16.16 (4.16 pm) 272 bus.
Transportation Expenses (pay on board):
- 51 bus to Redmires: £2.60 (£1.70 with a student card)
- 272 bus from Hathersage: £3.00 (No option for student fee)
Things to bring:
- Money for tickets (some cash is advised)
- Packed lunch (we’ll stop to eat during the walk)
- Water (important to stay hydrated)
- Comfortable walking shoes
- Suitable clothing for the weather (e.g. a raincoat or sunhat)
How long is the walk?
It’s about 9.5 km, and we estimate it will take 4 hours to complete.
The path includes gentle hills, moorland trails, and quiet lanes—great for beginners and seasoned walkers alike. The route map is attached below for your reference.
