Would you like to be friends with international students? Would you like to share Jesus with them during the Christmas season? Then please join our hosting scheme.
This year we have more international students coming to our events than ever and they are keen to make friends with local people. Many of them are not Christians and even have no idea about Jesus, so Christmas is the perfect opportunity to welcome them to your home and tell them your story with Jesus. How does it work?
The host scheme is known as ‘local link’, a plan to connect international students and local Christians. Once you join this scheme, we will allocate students according to your capacity and time available. You will have the student’s contact and you can arrange a date with them. It is very flexible. You can also step down anytime.
We hope through this meal sharing, you may develop a friendship with our international students. It is not only an opportunity to show your love to foreigners, moreover, it is also a chance to share your Christian testimony.
You could host them just at Christmas. However, you can always welcome them back to come to yours again if you want to deepen the friendship.
When do I host students?
There is no specific date to host students. This can be discussed with your allocated students.
There is no obligation that you have to host students on Christmas Day or at Christmas. We understand that you might have a wide family with you at Christmas or you won’t be in Sheffield then. Meanwhile, some students might prefer to meet up earlier because they plan to travel around during the university break.
Therefore, you have the flexibility to decide the date with the assigned students. However, we would recommend making this Christmas hosting between the 3rd and the 26th of December.

We will also provide online training to help you know more about how to host students. It will take place on Saturday 3 December at 10 am via Zoom. The meeting link will be sent to you when you sign up.
